Maria von Trapp: Novel- Book Review

Maria novel book review

I haven’t read any historical novels in quite some time. But I saw this one about Maria von Trapp (The Sound of Music) and thought I would check it out. While this is still a novel with added characters and situations, it is much closer to what happened. It’s an eye-opener to how much liberty Broadway and Hollywood take when telling their stories.

So what was true and what was made up? You’ll have to read the book to see. Keep reading for my review.

My Review

Interesting and captivating story based around the production of the Broadway musical, The Sound of Music by Oscar Hammerstein. The story is from the viewpoint of one of Hammerstein’s assistants as she meets with Maria concerning corrections she is demanding.

You will learn some interesting “facts” we consider truth today because we saw the musical or the movie. You will learn how the Van Trapp Family adjusted to a new life in America. I won’t kill the suspense here. You need to read the book and find out for yourself.

The novel also gives some possibly new information that you didn’t know about Oscar Hammerstein. The Sound of Music was his last musical as he died soon after the Broadway show opened.

I found the book interesting and enjoyable. I believe you will too!

To Release on July 30, 2024

  1. I’ve been hearing a lot about this book, and it sounds interesting. I read Maria’s own book, mostly telling about her life after the movie. But she had many fascinating stories her whole life!
