Are We Worthy? Do We Have Value?

Are you worthy?

Satan is a liar!

He told me I was not worthy and I had no value. Satan and his demons love to tell us we are worthless. I struggled far into my twenties with these demons.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

The problem came from trying to be someone else. I wanted to be someone that God had not created me to be. So, I experienced failure after failure. I couldn’t be an athlete. I never would be but I kept trying to live up to that standard. Read More at Believing in Who I Am

Comparing Yourself with Others

The sin of comparison takes us to places we are not equipped to handle. When I realized that God created me with talents and abilities that accentuated His plans for my life, I opened my life to be directed and used by Him. We need not compare ourselves to those around us; rather, we should compare ourselves to the standard of Jesus Christ.

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake.

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

2 Corinthians 4:5-7 NLT

The Old Covenant vs. New Covenant

This is the perfect illustration of the old covenant vs. the new covenant. Before Christ died for us, we were struggling to live up to a standard we could not possibly attain. We didn’t have it in us. But through the blood of Jesus, we are free to live. We have His Holy Spirit working in us to help us live pure lives.

God-Esteemed

Whenever I hear words prefaced with “self”, red flags go up for me. You see, it’s not about me and you. This life is all about Jesus Christ and Him crucified. It’s about drawing all people to Him. When I think of self-esteem, I like to change it up and say God-esteem. I ask myself, “How does God esteem me?” What I think doesn’t matter. What others think of me has no value. Only that God sees me as His precious daughter.

for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9 NLT

Treasure in Jars of Clay

In ancient days, valuable treasures were stored in old clay jars; the most unlikely place to find them. Paul compared us to those clay jars when he told the Corinthians, “we have this treasure in jars of clay”. It does not matter what we look like or the abilities we have because Jesus gives us our value. Just as the jar had no value until it was filled with valuable items. And the more cracked and broken we are, the more easily Christ can shine through us.

I recently had the opportunity to talk with Deborah Rutherford on her podcast, Behold Her Beauty. I shared much more about my struggles with the demons that pushed me down and called me worthless. Click below to go to the podcast and hear my story.

How to Find Your Value in Christ

As I mentioned, it took me years to fight off the demons and to give myself fully to Christ. I love the psalms where David talks to his soul, convincing himself that God is worthy and makes us worthy. I call it Soul Talking. It’s my way to take every thought captive, remove all negative thoughts, and become victorious in Christ.

  1. Find scriptures that are particularly uplifting for your situation.
  2. Replace every mention of men, women, whosoever, and the pronouns referring to them with your name.
  3. Print out the list
  4. Place the list in a prominent place. (your bathroom mirror)
  5. Recite these scriptures over and over.
